The Associate of Arts in Social Work is an interdisciplinary program designed for students who plan to transfer to a four-year institution to earn a bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field. The required courses cover foundational topics in psychology, sociology, social work and economics. Students will discuss social welfare policies and study how social work affects the health of individuals and the broader society. An Associate in Social Work degree will also qualify graduates for certain entry-level human services jobs. Some positions, like clinical social worker, may require advanced education and licensing.
